As the festive season draws to a close and we shimmy into the new year, I think it’s only right I submit my christmas wish for 2025. I would like to experience December in Lagos Nigeria with a playmate. A lady of the sun, I envied all the amazing pictures and videos of what is to be enjoyed on the motherland. An avid reader, my skin craves to soak up the sun whilst my eyes devour literature. A question that plagues me is whether I will view Lagos in the literal sense since reading Vagabonds by Eloghosa Osunde. Being a frequent visitor to Nigeria, I was especially sad that I could not participate this year. I would like to cross off a trip to Nigeria with a playmate as opposed to travelling alone… if you don’t mind?
With the migration of British Nigerians to Lagos, I am excited to have a field day with the budding businesses which promise to have the diasporan feel to it. I would like to be in the company of someone who is knowledgable about Nigeria and enjoys Lagosian cuisine as much as I do.
First stop? Terraform to cool down after a long flight. I was a repeat customer during my last trip.
I require a playmate that knows how to entertain a restless kitten like myself.
As much as the nightlife is calling my name, I am moreso interested in Yoruba culture and religion so any opportunities to ask questions to researchers during this blissful trip would be much appreciated. The last prong of my wish is to dive into Lagosian fashion. The Nigerian fashion landscape is booming in more ways than is credited for and I would love to use this opportunity to learn about craftsmanship and pick up a few pieces myself. I was lucky enough to lay my hands on the coveted mairachamp bag which I will definitely sport upon my return.
I look forward to hearing from you, my Lagosian playmate.
Till then, I’m trudging through the emotive read that is An Orchestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma. Maybe a wish to visit igboland with a lover will be next. Stay tuned.
